President Obama’s health care reform email
Here is the email that President Obama sent yesterday to the White House email mailing list.
I have written a counterpoint.

Subject: What health insurance reform means for you
Dear Friend,
If you’re like most Americans, there’s nothing more important to you about health care than peace of mind.
Given the status quo, that’s understandable. The current system often denies insurance due to pre-existing conditions, charges steep out-of-pocket fees – and sometimes isn’t there at all if you become seriously ill.
It’s time to fix our unsustainable insurance system and create a new foundation for health care security. That means guaranteeing your health care security and stability with eight basic consumer protections:
- No discrimination for pre-existing conditions
- No exorbitant out-of-pocket expenses, deductibles or co-pays
- No cost-sharing for preventive care
- No dropping of coverage if you become seriously ill
- No gender discrimination
- No annual or lifetime caps on coverage
- Extended coverage for young adults
- Guaranteed insurance renewal so long as premiums are paid
Learn more about these consumer protections at Whitehouse.gov.
Over the next month there is going to be an avalanche of misinformation and scare tactics from those seeking to perpetuate the status quo. But we know the cost of doing nothing is too high. Health care costs will double over the next decade, millions more will become uninsured, and state and local governments will go bankrupt.
It’s time to act and reform health insurance, drive down costs and guarantee the health care security and stability of every American family. You can help by putting these core principles of reform in the hands of your friends, your family, and the rest of your social network.
Thank you,
Barack Obama

Mr. President; I was happy to vote for you because of your promise for political change in Washington. I seem to have wasted my vote! You have proven, once again, that the corporate whores rule this country. Even if this healthcare bill is passed you have compromised away any chance for the American people to get any relief from the blood-sucking insurance companies. You have split your party to the extent that one or two senators can dictate to the populace what they think is best for our future, rather than the majority rule that is the promise of democracy. Like their corporate masters, our elected legislators have forgotten that our political system is built on the morality of the rights of the individual and not on the rights of the corporation. I guess, Mr. president that you have joined the ranks of those that think capitalism and democracy are one and the same. THERE IS NO MORALITY OR MERCY IN CAPITALISM! Our economic system only works when it is regulated by the government and I used to think that you were aware of this. You were elected by a majority of the populace to make the needed changes. It is time to stop with the butt kissing and get on with the business you were elected to do!
Dear Mr. President: As a physician in Arlngton Virginia, I know the patients desire "Health Insurance Reform." As a physician, I and my colleagues desire "Health Insurance Reform." I am having a difficult time keeping my practice open due the high cost of rent, insurance and staff. My reimbursement from BC/BS has NOT changed in five years. The message from Massachusetts was to provide the citizens with a straight forward simple health care bill to bridge the gaps created by the health insurance companies. Let physicians privately contract with our patients. Provide for medical liability reform. Compose legislation that is bi-partisan in nature. that is what I think and that is what i hear!

dear mr president, the most important reform to health care is to return the health care system to a nonprofit/ limited profit system which it used to be back when people could actually afford health insurance.salaries of ceo(s,board members and other adm personnel would be limited..health insurance premiums would be tied to actual costs averaged over several years.preexisting conditions, age and development of serious illness would no longer be a reason for raising premiums or canceling insurance since risk would be averaged over all patients. this is the main cause of health care becoming unaffordable and nothing else but returning the health care system to nonprofit will fix it. there are other problems with the health care system such as the fda allowing drug companies to do most of the research on new drugs.the fda should do the research and send the drug companies the bill.the drug companies should be required to sell medicare pts their drugs at cost plus 20%.
i think that you should either create the perfect health care system or LEAVE IT AS IT IS!!!!!
