Question - does anyone know what percent of Canadian's who need a heart procedure do not survive the wait to receive the procedure, and how many of them come to the U.S. because they are unwilling to wait?
All I know is what I hear... I am an American living in Vancouver the past 8 years. I have know people who have waited a year or longer for non-life threatening medical procedures, (knee replacement) But I never hear of anyone waiting for something like heart surgery. My husband's poker buddy has throat cancer and has received wonderful care. But I do think the US needs to go a different way from the Canadian med system.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('15560','vikki',' Question - does anyone know what percent of Canadian's who need a heart procedure do not survive the wait to receive the procedure, and how many of them come to the U.S. because they are unwilling to wait? \nAll I know is what I hear...
most people do not understand what health insurance cost untill they get on cobra. cobra is the actual cost of the health plan. This is the amount that the company employer pays each month for the coverage . thats if the employer pays all. so most employees don't find out the real cost untill they get on to cobra. the coverage is the same as the had. there are no pre conditions that are not covered, and as long as your cobra last, and you pay the premiums you are covered to the max of the policy. insurance companies can't cancel you.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('15544','albert Cecere','most people do not understand what health insurance cost untill they get on cobra. cobra is the actual cost of the health plan.
I agree there is a disconnect between the recipient and provider of the care as regard to costs etc.
I was donating blood and afterwards was approached by a bone marrow donor foundation. They asked if I was willing to get typed to be in the donor pool. I said sure, then they asked for my insurance information. So, I asked how much was the procedure and they replied it would be at most a couple hundred dollars, depending on my insurance. A month later I get my explanation of benefits and it turns out the typing cost $3500. I am glad that I am typed, and hope that maybe someday I can be a donor to someone in need, but I think that it is ridiculous that consumers aren't given truthful estimates at the time of service. When I called the foundation to inquire about the lack of disclosure ahead of time about the cost of typing, they were incredulous that I cared about cost, and kept repeating that "the insurance company is Mandated to pay" by the state of MA.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('14623','Michelle','I agree there is a disconnect between the recipient and provider of the care as regard to costs etc. \nI was donating blood and afterwards was approached by a bone marrow donor foundation.
Jim, in Wisconsin you have Badger Care which provides "free" (subsidized by Tax Payers) Comprehensive Health Insurance to all Wisconsin residents who are low income. You can apply for Badger Care here: http://dhs.wisconsin.gov/badgercareplus/ If you are not low income (or make more than what they consider is "low income" you can apply for the Wisconsin High Risk Health Insurance pool. That website is http://www.hirsp.org/ Both of these programs will provide guaranteed insurability and will cover pre-existing conditions either immediately (if you have had 18 months of prior coverage with no lapse of more than 63 days) or after a short waiting period. For common sense solutions to health care reform. For the reasons why informed individuals CAN NOT support the current health care bills and for common sense solutions to TRULY reforming our Health Insurance system visit http://www.sbisvcs.com/blog.htm
<a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('13660','C.
